Antica statua in steatite, raffigurante una saggio. Esemplare di splendida qualità e di buona epoca, in ottimo stato di conservazione. Nonostante le alte quotazioni rilevabili dai cataloghi di tutte le più importanti aste internazionali in merito ad opere analoghe, questa scultura viene proposta ad un prezzo estremamente contenuto, ed addirittura scontato nella promozione temporanea che contraddistingue la presente categoria. Rare Yuan or early Ming nephrite jade depicting Shoulao with a child on his shoulders, about 7.6 cm high. Very fine carving, in comparison with the usual standard of similar examples of this period. Marvellous patina with opaque and almost pearlescent surfaces. Also the quality of the nephrite is very high, having been chosen an attractive multi – colored yellow / green stone, with brown inclusions, a rare kind of gem typically used in the period from late Song to Yuan.

The present jade carving of Shoulao is an extraordinarily rare example of late Yuan to early Ming date, executed with superb intricacy and delicacy. The compelling sculptural quality is emphasised by the combination of the vivid facial features of the figure, of the playful expression of the child, with little details very sensitively carved. The present lot demonstrates the significant development in jade craftsmanship at the end of the Yuan dynasty, when the taste for rare and multi-colored jade gems, inherited by the older dynasties ruling over ancient China, was combined with a special attention the the carving details, as seen in the incised lines that enhance little particulars, as the edges of the robe of the figure. From the beginning of Ming era, the use of this special quality of jade will fastly disappear, and the details will progressively be lacking the meticulous attention seen here, at least till the final phase of this dynasty.

The facial features and clothing style of the figure in the present lot are characteristic of the end of Yuan period, and also the roundish outline of the back, showing somewhat innaturally bulbous, is a typical feature of many jade sculpture of human figures from the Yuan period to early Ming era. Also the wide use of short parallel incised lines to highlight in an almost pictorial way many details of the sculpture, especially of the beard and eyebrows and the edges of the robe, is a specificity of late Yuan to early Ming jade carvings: at this purpose, please take a look to the close-up photo of the face of the very important Yuan period jade depicting a foreigner, sold at Bonham’s Hong Kong in the sale of may 30th 2017 “THE SONGZHUTANG COLLECTION OF EARLY JADES from the Neolithic Period to the Yuan Dynasty”, lot nr. 65, sold for HK$ 1,125,000 (€ 125.822,00) (courtesy of Bonham’s, all rights reserved).

Vasetto cinese in porcellana, dalla forma marcatamente bombata. Con squisita eleganza e finezza, ripropone il raro ed apprezzatissimo decoro in smalti policromi su coperta bianca a tralci vegetali e frutti, già comparso nel secolo XVIII ° e mirabilmente reinterpretato con il massimo della qualità della porcellana del tardo ottocento. Cina, dinastia Qing, marchio e periodo Guanxu (1875-1908).

Rarissima, museale maschera Mossi. Raffigura una testa di antilope, il muso finemente intagliato ed inciso, le corna ricurve. Reperto antichissimo, ascrivibile ai primi decenni del XIX ° Secolo e forse anteriormente.

 

Antico feticcio in legno scolpito. La figura, di grande espressività, è rivestita di chiodi. Il copricapo è ornato da piume. Zaire, fine XIX ° inizi del XX ° secolo.

 

Statua africana in legno duro. Raffigura un capo tribù finemente intagliato ed in bella patina. Baulè della Costa d’Avorio, inizi del XX° secolo.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Feticcio africano in legno duro. Il corpo è completamente rivestito di chiodi. Proviene dal Congo e si ascrive alla fine del XIX ° secolo.

 

 

 

 

 

Raro casco reale della tribù dei Kuba. E ‘stato ricavato in un solo pezzo di ligneo, intagliato e policromato, arrichito con il decoro di stoffe e di cauri.

Kuba, Zaire, inizi del XX ° secolo. Pezzo integro, di qualità museale.

 

 

 

Antica maschera africana in legno intagliato e borchie. E’ ascrivibile alla tribù dei ‘Bete’. Costa d’Avorio, primi decenni del XX° secolo.

George Morland

Cet article est extrait de l’ouvrage Larousse « Dictionnaire de la peinture ».

Peintre anglais (Londres 1763  – id.  1784).

Élève de son père, le peintre Henry Morland, il manifesta un talent précoce et, dans sa jeunesse, répara et falsifia maint paysage néerlandais du xvii^e s. Il resta auprès de son père en qualité d’apprenti de 1777 à 1784 et exposa pour la première fois, en 1773 et jusqu’en 1804, à la Royal Academy, dont il était également l’élève. Il exposa aussi à la Society of Artists et à la Free Society of Artists. Il débuta comme portraitiste, mais dut sa réputation à des scènes de genre dans le style de Wheatley. En 1786, il épousa la sœur du graveur William Ward, et ses œuvres furent dès lors diffusées par la gravure. Bien que Morland eût mené joyeuse vie en mauvaise compagnie, son œuvre est d’une surprenante fécondité. Sa meilleure période se situe de 1788 à 1798 (l’Intérieur d’étable, 1791, Londres, N. G. ; Campement de bohémiens, 1790, Detroit, Inst. of Art) ; en 1799, il représenta quelques vues des côtes de l’île de Wight. Morland exécuta généralement des scènes de genre de style champêtre où figurent des personnages dans des fermes, des animaux à l’étable, ou des scènes d’hiver (exemples à New Haven, Yale Center for British Art). Ces œuvres n’ont aucune portée intellectuelle, mais témoignent d’une technique parfaitement accomplie, au métier souple, et d’une touche presque baroque. La Porte de la taverne (1792, Édimbourg, N. G.) est un bon exemple de la maturité de l’artiste.
